November 30th
BELATED HAPPY
THANKSGIVING!
NOON UPDATE: More Schedule
Changes, Please Check Pointstreak.
Due to the changes
made to the schedule over the weekend, we were made aware of some other issues
resulting in double headers, etc. so I have made 4 ADDITIONAL changes to the
schedule. Please check Pointstreak for your NEW Schedule as of
11:00 AM on Monday morning, November 30th. Hopefully these
are the last changes………but I wouldn’t count on
it.
I hope everyone enjoyed their “hockey free” holiday
weekend. But some SCHEDULE CHANGES have been made, and
EVERYONE
needs to go to Pointstreak and reprint their schedule. We
moved
Northview/Bello into 2A, and Milton/Hardy into 1A. This
change, and
a few other issues, resulted in several game changes concerning
pairings,
times, and venues. So print your New Schedule and make sure
you
communicate this to all your players and parents.

October 15th
There have been
some
revisions and updates made to the rules. Please Go to the Rules Page
(by clicking here) to review and become familiar with them.

October 5th
THE
SCHEDULES ARE READY !!!
You
may now go onto the Pointstreak GHRA website and view your 2009-2010
Schedule.
DO
NOT PRINT THIS OUT AND DISTRIBUTE IT TO YOUR TEAM.
IT WILL CHANGE
!!!
You
need to check the Pointstreak Schedule often to see what changes have
been
made. YOU are responsible for doing this because even though
we send out
emails when changes are made, the Board is not responsible for making
sure you
get them. The Pointstreak Schedule is
always the OFFICIAL schedule
on any given day.
As
you look over your schedule, I tried to accommodate ALL requests sent
in to me
but some were not able to be honored. (For example
I can’t
block out the entire weekends for Hanukah, Martin Luther King Day,
President’s
Day, and your school’s TWO weekends of Spring Break along
with Halloween,
Thanksgiving weekend, and the three weekends for Christmas/New Years
holidays.
And yes that was one of the requests I
got.)
I
am working with 2 rinks with different block out dates, home rink
preferences
for “Home” games,
travel
times, double headers, band competitions, fireman coach schedules,
several
school systems with different holiday schedules, proms, homecoming, and
some
more crap I won’t even mention.
Oh
yeah, I also had to make sure each team played 14 games against the
correct
opponents in the correct “home” rink for their home
games.
So
to sum it up, I hope your schedule works for you.
I’ve got a
lot of hours in it and I don’t want to hear a lot of
whining.
Tell Little Johnny and Little Susie’s parents to figure
something out,
rework their personal agendas, and play hockey!!
HOWEVER,
if you have overlooked some legitimate High School function, let me
know and I’ll
see what I can do. Email me at tmelton@actionawards.com.
Good
Luck this Season, and Play Nice,
Tommy
Melton

March 6th
I have
completed all the tournament scheduling with a couple
of surprises. All the Bronze
Championships (1A, 2A, 3A) will be played at SGAA this coming Sunday,
3/22,
at 5:00, 6:00, and 7:00. So these divisions will be
finished. And because of tight scheduling and rink
availability we will be able to have ALL the other FIVE Championships
on
SATURDAY, the 28th at SGAA. So Championship Sunday just became
Championship Saturday
!!! And everybody will be free to head
out on
Spring Break or at least take Sunday off. And we did this
with no week night games !!!
We’ll
play this Friday at both venues, then have a
full Saturday and Sunday at both the Cooler and SGAA during our
“normal” rink game times. All games at
SGAA will be on
the usual White Rink, also. And we had to work all this around
ice tournament schedules, high school lacrosse & baseball
games, proms,
Friday night tickets to the Thrasher/Red Wings game (top priority on my
list),
and even a very nice Doctor who doesn’t get out of the office
until 7:00
pm on Fridays. You’ve gotta admit, we’re
pretty nice
guys, and smart
too!!!
Here’s the way
it shakes out:
1A
Bronze – Only four teams
playing,
either this Friday at the Cooler, or Saturday for one game at SGAA,
then Bronze
1A Championship this Sunday, 3/22 at 5:00 at SGAA.
2A
Bronze – Only four teams
playing,
one game Saturday at the Cooler, and one at SGAA, then Bronze 2A
Championship
this Sunday, 3/22 at 6:00 at SGAA.
3A
Bronze – Five teams with two
playing
Friday night, and then two games on Saturday, then Bronze 3A
Championship this
Sunday, 3/22 at 7:00 at SGAA.
1A
State - Eight teams playing
the quarterfinals,
this Friday night for four teams, Saturday for four
teams. Then the
2 semi-final games, one this coming Sunday at the Cooler, the other on
Friday
night the 27th at the Cooler. Then the
Championship
Game on Saturday, the 28th, at 5:00 at SGAA.
2A
State – Twelve teams
playing, eight will play Friday
night at either the Cooler or SGAA to see who makes it to
Saturday’s
quarterfinals against the top 4 seeds. Again there will be
four games
on Saturday, 2 at the Cooler, and 2 at SGAA. The four winners
will
advance to the semi-finals this coming Sunday, 3/22, 1 at SGAA and 1 at
the
Cooler. Then they rest up a week, and come to SGAA on
Championship
Saturday to play at 6:00 for the finals.
3A
State – Seven teams in this
bracket, #1 Seed
gets a bye, other 6 play in the 3 quarterfinal games either Friday
night or
Saturday. Then both semi-final games will be at the Cooler on
Sunday, 3/22. Rest up a week, come to SGAA on
Championship Saturday to play at 7:00 for the finals.
4A/5A
State – We’ve got
only four
teams wanting to play for the 4A and 5A State Championships and
here’s
how we all agreed to do it.
The #1 Seed
Walton 5A plays the #4 Brookwood 5A, and then
the #2 Seed McIntosh/Routh team will play #3 Lassiter/Prinzbach for a
Play-In
round.
The winners of
both these games play each other for a best
of three series for the 5A Championship, the losers of these two games
play
each other for a best of three series for the 4A
Championship. These
schedules will be posted after the two play-in games but rest assured
it will
all be settled on Championship Saturday at SGAA !!!
So
there you have it! Go to
Pointstreak, click on Tournament 2009, and get your schedule printed
and your team
ready. It’s Championship Time !!!
March 6th
Its that time again! Don't forget to turn your clocks ahead one hour
this Saturday night!

October 9th:
Important News!
The
2008-2009 GHRA Schedule was designed as the best
solution to minimize "travel" games for teams away from their home
rink, and it also matches teams against their own division (3A-4A-5A)
as much
as possible, while still minimizing travel and not have teams play the
same
team too many times. Also we
had to work around block-out dates at both venues, make sure the Home
team
played it’s home games at it’s home rink, try to
spread each team’s games out
through the seasons, and then work around the mountain of requests
received
from coaches working around school functions and other events. It
actually
takes more time to move and work around games than it does to run out
the
original schedule. So below is a
breakout by division of the
logic of the schedules of each division.
1A
Division
(12
Teams)
Each team
plays every other team at least once, and 3 of
the teams twice for 14 games. All games count in the
standings. Every team
plays in the State Tournament and will be seeded according to the
standings.
2A
East and 2A West
(8
teams in each
division)
Each team
plays every other team in their East or West
division twice for a total of 14 games. Obviously all games
count in the
standings.
There will be
NO East teams playing any West teams in the regular
season. For the tournament, we will pair up the
highest West seed with the
lowest East seed, and so on.
VARSITY
DIVISION
(16
teams)
The maximum
number of games between two teams is 3, and no
varsity team should have more than 2 travel games, with most teams
having one
or zero games away from their home rink. In the Varsity
Division we also tried
to minimize the times that 3A teams play 4A & 5A teams, yet at
the same
time give the 4A and 5A teams a schedule that matched them up as much
as
possible. This took many, many hours of trial and error because this
had to be
done by hand and cross checked over and over to find the
solution. We finally
formulated a suitable matrix accomplishing what we wanted.
Unfortunately
Pointstreak will not allow cross division play so ALL 16 teams are
combined in
one division so the standings and stats will reflect that.
But obviously the
teams will be split out by Division at the end of the season for the
State
Championships in each division with all teams playing. Below
is the format
around which the schedule was built:
Varsity
Division East - 8 teams in
the division, with 5 3A teams, 2 4A teams, and 1 5A team.
The
five 3A East teams play 2 of the 3A East teams twice and
the other 2 3A East teams 3 times, the 4A/5A East teams once, and one
game
against one of the 3A West teams.
The
two 4A East teams play the 4A/5A East times three times each,
the 5 3A East teams once, the 4A West team twice, and the 5A West team
once.
The
5A East team plays the 2 4A East teams 3 times, the 5 3A East
teams once, the 4A West team once, and the 5A West team twice
Varsity
Division West - 8 teams in the division, with 6 3A
teams, 1 4A
team, and 1 5A team.
The six
3A West teams play 4 of the 3A West teams
twice and one 3A West team 3 times, and the 4A West team
once. Five of
the 3A West teams play the 5A West team once, and one game against one
of the
3A East teams. One of the 3A West teams play the 5A
West team twice.
The
4A West team plays the 5A West times three times, the 2 4A
East teams twice, the 5A East team once, and the 6 3A
West teams
once.
The
5A West team plays the 4A West team 3 times, the 5A East team
twice, five of 3A West teams once, one of the 3A West
teams
twice, and the 2 4A East teams once.
Varsity
Divisions East and West will be combined into one division in
Pointstreak.

The 2008-2009 GHRA Schedule has
been fully completed
& is now "set in stone"!
In what has to be
record time, the full GHRA games schedule has been
set and is now posted on Pointstreak. To access it, please go to your
division's web pages on the Pointstreak Site. The Schedule has now been
removed from this site to avoid any confusion.
October 8th:
The 2008 - 2009 GHRA Schedule Is
HERE!!!
As
it is with the start of every season, this is the first of what we're
sure will be
an on-going process for a bit. The schedule will undergo changes until
we have it tweaked to just about as perfect we can make it. We will try
to accomodate everyone's requests, but please realize that we have to
take into consideration a number of factors when we make changes.
For your convenience, the schedule page has been kept simplistic to
make it easier for you to print out for review. DO NOT MAKE
COPIES OF THIS SCHEDULE FOR DISTRIBUTION!!!
Please notice that for reference, there is a version number of the
schedule so you'll know which schedule is the most current.
The
current schedule is:
Version
1.0
October
8, 2008; 4:30pm
For the next few days, the rule of
thumb is to please check the
schedule as often as possible! As in previous seasons, once the game
schedule has been fully finalized, it will be posted on Pointstreak and
removed from this site. From the schedule posted on Pointstreak, you
can make copies of the schedule to distribute to your team.

August 22nd:
Welcome
Back! It's that time of year again, time to prepare
for the 2008-2009 GHRA season. We have many things to review
and
organize. Our hope is to begin the administrative processes
early and get
everything settled well before the start of the season. I've
attached the
"2008-2009 GHRA Timeline" for your review. Please
note:
The League Organizational Meeting scheduled for September 3rd, 7:00
p.m. at The
Cooler.
The
new season brings with it several changes. The league
fees are now $2,175.00. An increase of $75.00. This
increase was
put into place to cover the coaches background checks. We
felt it simpler
to incorporate these costs into the League Fees.
We
will continue our partnership with the amateur Athletic Union
(AAU). To get a head start, please have all your players and
coaches
register online with AAU.
www.aausports.org
From
the "Home Page", click on "Join
AAU", then select "Athlete" or "Non Athlete"
tabs. (coaches select non athlete) Both players and coaches
will need to
enter the GHRA Club Code on the registration page, GHRA Club Code:
GAHO4D5KB0.
Once
they have completed the AAU registration, they must now
register with GHRA.
All
coaches must complete the enclosed "Background Check
Form". Please have forms mailed to Glenn Heidkamp at:
Glenn
Heidkamp
2947
Perrington Place
Marietta GA
30066
Forms
must be received before September
24th, 2008. Unlike previous seasons, we will not accept late
forms.
Failure to fulfill this requirement will result in the offending coach
to lose
his GHRA eligibility.
Once
you have completed your team's selection process, please give
an honest evaluation of the team's skill level on the "2008-2009 Team
Assessment Form". Once you have determined which GHRA
Division your
teams is best suited, complete the form and e-mail to Doug Russell, druss22@msn.com,
Ronnie Williams, ramadar@aol.com,
and Glenn Heidkamp, glennh@remacinc.com.
We
look forward to seeing all of you at the Organizational Meeting
September, 3rd.

From the board
members, have a great
spring and summer! See you in the fall.
PS –
Don’t forget about
The SGAA
Dual Decks “Spring Training” Season
SGAA is again
hosting a High School
Spring League to give teams and coaches to chance to get the jump on
next year,
and to keep our hockey players “playing
hockey”. Below
are listed some facts and basic information about this
“Spring
Training” season.
1.
League would begin around the week of April 9th
and run until about
the end of June. Teams would only play one game a
week. 10 games plus a
tournament. Entry fee is
again only $1000 per team. All games would be at
the SGAA DualDeck.
2.
Games would be weeknights at 8:00 or 9:00, maybe some weekend games
occasionally, if necessary. Schedule would be somewhat
flexible to
accommodate special requests. Travel distance would
be a priority
in scheduling. For example McIntosh’s
time request would be
given top priority since they have the longest drive, etc.
3.
This is basically your next season’s team (or
teams). All
players must be USA Inline registered (which most are already) and play
for the
school based on the GHRA eligibility requirements. This
means no
graduating seniors, but up and coming 8th
graders are
OK. Rosters can have as many as
16 skaters and 3
goalies; we want to be “very flexible” due to
vacations, etc.
4.
League would have no “official” affiliation with
GHRA but would
basically follow the same rules and guidelines.
League would be
administered by Tommy Melton and Ronnie Williams.
6.
Pointstreak MAY be used IF the majority of the teams wanted to spend
another
$15 per game or $150 for the season. We have to pay
the operator
$10 and then pay Pointstreak for the service.
We’ll poll all
the teams entering, get a vote, and go with that.
Last year no one
really cared about the Pointstreak so we saved that money.
7.
Divisions would be broken up similar to GHRA (AAAA, AAA, etc.) after
seeing how
many teams we have. (For example if we only had 10
teams, 2
divisions; 16 teams, 3 divisions,
etc.) But
we’ll sort all that out together so it’s best for
all teams
involved.
8.
Teams will be required to have home/away jerseys just like GHRA regular
season.
9. The emphasis on
this season will be to help
players improve individual skills and team work, but primarily to LET
THE KIDS
CONTINUE TO SKATE AND HAVE FUN.
Remember: No pressure, no whining, and no problems!
OK,
I NEED TO KNOW BY APRIL 1 YOUR INTENTIONS!
We’ve got to get rolling to make this
happen. Email me to let
me know what YOU THINK your school is going to do.
Either
“Yes”, “No”, or
“Probably Yes” and how many
teams and what “division” you
think. Ronnie
Williams at ramadar@aol.com

Ronnie Williams

March
23rd:
Good
Friday Afternoon Team Managers and
Coaches,
Well we are here, finally! After all the
practices and regular season games, Championship weekend is here!
The
board has reviewed every different scenario that would possibly happen
to make
this Sunday’s schedule happen and then several wrenches have
been thrown
into the process:
-
Semi-final games not ending until 11:00pm
at the Cooler on Saturday night, very late to work the venue schedule
and get
them out.
-
Our illustrious chairman’s son is
graduating from college.
-
A death of a high school friend, with a
funeral this weekend.
-
Several school teams in different
divisions with the possibility of playing for a State Championship at
two
different venues.
With
all the above mentioned exceptions,
the GHRA Board has decided to move all the Sunday Championship games to
the
SGAA Dual Deck Arena with the below game times:

Good morning
team managers and coaches,
The board has
had to move several games because of school
conflicts. With those changes the Cooler is completely filled
Friday and
Saturday and has NO slots available. So several games that should be
held at
the Cooler, have been moved to SGAA, sorry but it must be done. Please
review
the updated schedule at the below link:

March
12th:
Good Afternoon
Coaches and Team Managers,
Please
read the great news from the
GHRA Board and AAU Hockey below!

AAU
and GHRA have worked out a
partnership that will allow any GHRA State Champion or Finalist in each
division to enter the USA
HIGH SCHOOL INLINE HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIPS,
May 26-28, 2007, in Anaheim, California.
This is a big step for our League and we should be proud to be invited
to the
Nationals by AAU. (USARS) USA Rollersports is the
official National
Governing Body of Inline Hockey. USARS is recognized by the
International
Governing Body FIRS as recognized by the IOC and the USOC.
The
AAU events sanctioned by USARS lead
to the USARS Team USA
select tryout camps in the 10u-18u divisions. Invitations
can also go to the USARS Junior, 21u, Women &
Men's select Team USA
tryouts www.teamusajrprospect.com
& www.usarollersports.org
These
teams compete in the Junior
Olympics International
and

Good Afternoon
Coaches and Team Managers,
A little
reminder from the Board, it’s that time of
year to move your clocks up one hour before you go to bed on Saturday
evening
so you will be on time Sunday for your game!
February
12th:
Good Afternoon
Team Managers and Coaches,
Congratulations
to our GHRA All-Stars! The home teams will wear their dark
jerseys
and the visiting teams will wear their light jerseys. All
players are
invited and encouraged to attend the Skills Competition before the
All-Star
games with full gear. Please arrive at least 30 minutes

competition starts to get dressed and registered!

Team Managers
and Coaches:
The board has
received numerous enquiries concerning the end
of the year playoffs. At this time, here is the scenario:
Basically we have
two weeks laid out to finish. We'll hopefully play
some first round
games during the first week at each venue using team location and
common sense
for the time and day. The weekend of March 17-18
will be booked
with many games at the Cooler, and some at SGAA. AARHO is
holding their tournament
at SGAA that weekend so we might have to work around them a
little. The
next Saturday, March 24th will be semis (and maybe some quarterfinals)
at both
rinks and the Championships on Sunday, March 25. Bottom line
is team
placement, venue availability, and team travel time will all be
determining
factors in laying out the games in the most logical way BUT we really
don't
know how it's going to fall until we get final
standings. The
highest seed in each pairing will play at home which also makes
everything up
in the air until the final standings. All the board
knows at this
time is each team will need to make themselves available those last two
weeks,
and that their games will probably
be on the weekends, but they possibly
could have one or two during the weekdays either
week. So there you
go, that's the plan. But as far as a schedule, we
won't know until
Sunday night or Monday, March 11 or 12.
Sincerely,
The GHRA Board
January

during their 14 regular season games by receiving the least number of
total penalty minutes.
-
The
GHRA Sportsmanship Award will be awarded to the winning team at their

The
board would also
like to give a "High

the only teams
to play this weekend and NOT go to the penalty box! Congratulations
coaches and players, keep up the good work!
Have a safe and Happy Holiday
Season,
The
GHRA Board
PS - .........the season
returns Friday, January 12, 2007!
December 12th:
Good
Morning Coaches and Team Managers,
Almost
at the half way point of the season, a few items to review:
- Penalties were up 22% this weekend over
last year.
- The
board would like to give a "High
Five" to any team NOT
going to the penalty box, but we didn't have any this weekend! Come on guys, stay out of the box
and get mentioned on Monday's by the GHRA board.
Also, at this time of the year,
the board would like all teams to please review your team's
mission statement for the remainder of the year and see where you
stand. Here below are several great quotes from some great
coaches, read them to your team and challenge them for the
second half, to be their best!
"How you respond to
the challenge in the second half of the season will
determine what you become after the season, whether you
are a winner or a loser."
-Lou Holtz
"The price of
success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the
determination that
whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the
task at hand."
-Vince Lombardi
"Luck is what
happens when preparation meets opportunity."
-Coach Darrel Royal
"There
are only two options regarding commitment. You're either IN or you're
OUT. There is no such thing as life in-between."

Happy Holidays,
The GHRA Board
December 5th:
Good afternoon coaches
and team managers,
In
the past, coaches have nominated players and the Board members made the
final decisions on who made the teams. The Board has met and decided
this year to allow the coaches to select their team representatives for
the skating positions for the All-Star teams. The goalies will be
chosen by the number of wins they have achieved by Sunday, February 4th,
2007.
Here is the layout of the All-Star
process:
- For All-Star ranking, team positions
will be frozen on Sunday,
February 4th, 2007.
-
The coaching staffs of the top two teams in each division as of Sunday, February 4th,
2007,
will coach the All-Star teams. The top seed will represent the Home
All-Star team and the second seed will represent the Visitor All-Star
team.
- On
Monday,
February 5th,
2007,
the Board will email the frozen standings for representation to the 5
Divisional All-Star Games.
-
Coaches will have until Sunday, February 11th,
2007,
to send in their teams representatives for the All-Star games by email
only to the Board. If the Board hasn't received a teams list
by Sunday,
February 11th, 2007, the Board will choose the
players to represent that team.
- On
Tuesday,
February 12th,
2007,
the 5 Divisional All-Star lists (10 teams) will be placed up on www.ghrahockey.com
web site.
-
All-Star games will be played the week of February 19th,
2007, at both the Cooler and SGAA
Dual Deck Arena.

December 4th:
Good Morning Coaches and Team
Managers,
We
are into the meat of the season and play is
good! Congratulations to the coaches and players, you have
done a great job thus far
this season with penalties. This past weekend, we had less penalties
called than last year, same weekend!
- We are having several games
going into overtime, which means great competitive games! Would like to
review overtime scenarios with all at this time:
- One 5 minute, run clock, sudden
death overtime period.
- The first team to score will be
declared the winner, thus ending the game and receiving 2 points
for the win. The losing team is awarded 0 points.
If, at the end of the 5 minute OT period the score remains tied,
each
team will receive 1 point in the standings.
- There will be NO
timeouts during the OT period.
- The board would like to give a "Two Handed High Five"
to the following teams from this past weekend. Chattahoochee
1A and Athens
1A, they were the only teams to play this
weekend and NOT go to the
penalty box! The reason for the two handed high five, this is
the second time this season that both teams did not go to the penalty
box during a game, they did it against each other this
time! Congratulations coaches and players, keep up the good
work!
"The
Spirit of Competition is shadowed only by the Spirit of Being a Kid!"
Sincerely,
The GHRA Board

Players, Parents, and
Spectators Codes of Conduct
The following addition has been added to our rules section. This was
previously posted on our registration forms, which all players have to
agree to prior to joining our association, but it was
omitted in
error as part of our posted rules page. This has now been corrected. To
remind
everyone what the code of conduct is for our players, we are posting it
here for you to review.
PARENTS AND SPECTATORS CODE OF CONDUCT
All parents and
spectators are expected to conduct themselves in a proper, respectful
and sportsmanlike manner while attending League Games.
Obnoxious behavior, verbal abuse of players, coaches, referees and
other spectators or the use of profanity will not be
tolerated. Any parent or spectator engaging in inappropriate
behavior may be asked to leave the arena. If they do not, the
game will be forfeited and the proper law enforcement agency will be
summoned. In the case of consistent or particularly egregious
behavior, the GHRA Board of Directors may ban a parent or spectator
from all League activities.
PLAYERS CODE OF CONDUCT
Players
should at all times conduct themselves in accordance with the highest
standards of good conduct both on and off the rink, and shall display
good sportsmanship in their dealings with each other and members and
coaches of opposing teams.
· Players shall treat all game officials with
dignity and respect of all
times.
· Under no circumstances shall players argue with
or use profanity
towards officials.
· Players shall treat all opponents with
dignity and respect at all times.
· Players shall not argue with, make sarcastic
remarks to or use
profanity toward opponents.
· Players shall not take any inappropriate
offensive actions towards
opponents.
· Players shall show appropriate respect to coaches
and shall give their
maximum concentration and efforts to coaches both at practices and
games.
REMEMBER:
The GHRA strictly follows
USA Hockey’s ZERO
Tolerance Policy
for violations of the Players, Coaches,
Parents and Spectators Code of
Conduct!
November 13th:
Good
Morning Coaches and Team Managers,
After
our fourth
week of the season, a few
items still need to be reviewed.
-
Penalties were up 22% this weekend over
last year.
-
The board would like to give a "High
Five" to any team NOT going
to the penalty box, but we didn't have any this weekend! Come on guys, stay out of the box
and get
mentioned on Monday's by the GHRA board.
-
Please read the following rule, we had several goalies with
incorrect
helmets this past weekend and had to change. "Rule
303 Goalkeepers Equipment - (d) It is mandatory for all goalkeepers to
wear a helmet designed for hockey with the helmet strap properly
fastened and a full face mask designed for hockey with a chin
cup. It
is mandatory that all goalkeepers participating in the High
School age
division and below, and for the goalkeepers under the age of 18 playing
in the Adult age division, to wear an H.E.C.C. approved helmet with the
helmet strap properly fastened and an H.E.C.C. approved full face mask
with a chin cup....."
-
Finally, at this
time there
are several coaches still not approved to be on the
bench, you know who
you are. Please remain off until your are approved!
Sincerely,
GHRA Board
November
10th:
Minor Revisions to the Guest
Goalie Rule, Please Read.
5. Guest Goaltender Rule
As some GHRA teams have only one goaltender and situations come up due
to illness, injuries, etc. GHRA has adopted the following rules
concerning Guest Goalies:
Any team that does not have their rostered goalie available for a game
due to a legitimate reason may recruit a goalie from another team for
that game. The Guest Goalie must be from
the same or a lower division. The Coach must report to the
scorekeeper and the refs that his team is using a Guest Goalie for that
game so the stats will be entered correctly.
The Coach should notify the Board by email at least 48 hours
before the game and give a detailed explanation as to why a
Guest Goalie is needed for approval. In the event
that a Guest Goalie is needed in an emergency due
to an unforeseen circumstance and there's not time to notify the Board,
the team may recruit one within these parameters for the game but then
the Coach must email the Board after the
game within 48 hours and explain the situation. The
Board will then review this special circumstance.
The spirit of this rule is to allow teams to compete fairly with the
use of an experienced goaltender. It is not to make a team
more competive or "better". The Board will review
these requests and make sure they fall within the "Spirit of the
Rule". If the Board finds this substitution was not
legitimate, it will take disciplinary action against the team and the
coach.
November
8th:
Good
Morning
Coaches and Team Managers,
After
our
third week of the season, it seems most of the players are "getting it"
on the New Standards of Play and Rules Emphasis.
-
Penalties
were up 18% over last year.
-
The board would
like to give a
"High Five" to three teams from this past weekend. Chattahoochee
1A, Pope
1A,
and Athens 1A were
the only teams
to play this weekend and NOT
go to the penalty box! Congratulations guys, keep up the good work!
-
Finally,
thank you coaches for being "Legal". At this time, all the coaches who
are on the bench are "Legal", a few still that haven't turned
in their
forms.

is where we live. Life is just where we spend time in between games."

October 30th:
Good morning Coaches and
Team Managers,
Our
second weekend of the 2006-2007 GHRA Season is under our belts and again a few
things the board
needs to review:
- Penalties were up 29% over the second weekend of
the 2005-2006 season!
- Again,
the penalties that were called - Holding, Interference,
and Hooking.
We also had 3 game misconducts and several unsportsmanlike penalties
called.
- The
board would like to give a "High Five" to three teams from this past weekend. McIntosh 2A, Walton
Gold 3A, and Northview 2A were
the only teams
to play this weekend and NOT
go to the penalty box! Congratulations guys, keep up the good!
- We still have several coaches who aren't "Legal",
hopefully this will be completed this week and we can close this
chapter in the emails sent. It's tough to coach sitting on the outside
looking in. We will send out another approved list before the weekend.
Good luck to all this week in practice and games,
October 26th:
Surprise, Surprise, Schedule's
Changed !!!
Effective
10/26, Thursday at noon there have been a few more "tweaks"
to the schedule so, once again, print out your Pointstreak
schedule to
see if your team was affected. (Come on
folks, let this be it, you're
killing us !!!)
Pointstreak Notes
Coaches,
make sure you report to the scorekeeper who is in
goal and if you change goalies. If your rostered
goalie is not
there
and you are using a Guest Goalie, make him aware of
that.
Also make
sure you report all players who are present for the
game, or
who is
missing.
I
get a lot of emails from coaches, parents, and
players wanting to add an assist, or a 2nd assist to
goals. Sorry but I can't ADD assists to
goals, I
can make corrections (from one
player
to another) but I can't award
an assist if one was not given by the referee at the time of the
goal. This is a judgment call by the officials just
like holding,
tripping, and so on. The officials all know how
important it is to
the players to get credit for these stats and they try to be consistent
throughout the league on their awards of goals and assists. Coaches
are required to sign and check the scoresheet at the end of their games
and that is the time to ask
about scoring corrections.
Again, we
have no problem in correcting an error (giving Johnny the goal or
assist by
taking it away from Ralphie) but I can't add an assist if it was not
reported at the game. Please see the rule below:
Rule
614
(Note)
It is the responsibility of the Referee to
award goals and assists, and such decision is final. In cases of an
obvious error in awarding of a goal or an assist which as been
announced, it should be corrected promptly. Changes shall not
be
made after the Referee has signed the Official scoresheet.
a) A
goal shall be scored when the puck as been put
between the goal posts by the stick of a player of the attacking team
from in front, below the cross bar and entirely across the goal line,
before time expires.
A "goal" shall be credited in the scoring records
to a player who shall have propelled the puck into the opponents goal.
Each "goal" shall count as one point in the player's record.
An "assist" shall be credited to the player or
players taking part in the play immediately preceding the goal, but no
more than two assists can be credited on
any goal...........
October 24th:
More Minor Schedule Changes
The latest
schedule update was made midday on Tuesday, Oct. 24th
Check your
Pointstreak Schedule Again!
Hopefully
this is the last
one, but if anyone has any legitimate problems,
email tmelton@actionawards.com.
I think we have planned around all winter
breaks, homecomings, ice games, rink black out dates, the Super Bowl,
and some other special requests I won't even
mention. Let's bring
this in for a landing !!! No more requests, please !!!
Have
you visited our web site lately? If not, you should. It changes
everyday, sometimes more than that! The Board wants to have all teams
represented on our "links" area if you have a web site. Please take a
look and see what other teams are doing.
If
you have a web site and you want a link posted on
GHRA,
please send me your teams web address and we'll post
it. If
you have an image of your team's logo, please send it me as well so we
can use that with your link URL.

PS -
We still have several teams with coaches who haven't completed their
registrations, "Don't be sitting in the stands
this weekend watching when you should be on the bench coaching"!
October 22nd:
After
a great Opening Weekend of the 2006-2007 GHRA Season, a few things I
wanted to review with all:
-
Penalties were up 24% over opening weekend of the 2005-2006 season!
-
Most penalties that were called - Holding, Interference,
and Hooking.
(Please review the "New Standard of Play
and Rules Emphasis" video with your players.....link is on the
website.)
.....I was at SGAA a little on Saturday and Sunday listening
and evaluating the games (also keeping score) and heard some
players
and parents grumbling over calls to "let them play the game".
Please
understand, this standard of play isn't on a trial basis, this is the
way the game is going to be called from here forward. Coaches, teach
this to your players and team managers, teach this to the parents. "An
educated player and parent will make for a better team
chemistry!"
-
I
would like to give a "High Five" to the 2A
St. Francis team this weekend. They were the
only team
to play this opening weekend and NOT
go to the penalty box!
Congratulations guys, keep up the good!
Also
coaches and team managers, I need all coaches to
be registered
before this weekend on the website as
a coach as well as getting your
background checks into SCCI and approved (it takes a minimum
of 3
business days from the date in which they receive your paperwork to get
an answer). I will email a list of coaches that will be
allowed on the
bench during your teams games by this Friday, October 27 in
the am. If
your name is not on the list, you will not be allowed on your teams
bench during games! We are very serious about this ladies and
gentlemen.
Keep
your hands on your sticks and keep your sticks down,

2006
- 2007 Schedule has been revised!
Due to four schools letting us know this morning that this was their

October 6th:
Welcome
to the 2006-2007 season of Georgia High School Roller
Hockey. This year is starting out to be our biggest season
ever! Last year we had over 50 teams and this year we should
top that! Our sport continues to grow not just in our area but
across the country.
We are excited about this new website and know it will be a big bonus
to our League. Check it often for important announcements,
schedules, standings, and other League information. We will
continue to make improvements and add features in the weeks ahead as we
get ready to launch our new season. The registration process
for coaches and players is very simple and easy to
follow.
Coaches, be sure to fill out your background check forms and collect
them for all your schools teams and mail them in to
Southeastern. The address is on the bottom of the
form. Players and Coaches, don't forget you must register with
USA Inline before registering with GHRA.
Coaches and Team Managers, you may check to see how many of your
players have registered by simply clicking on Team Rosters on the home
page and then selecting your team from the drop down
menu. Check it daily until all your players have registered,
because if they're not registered properly, they're not playing !!!
Good luck to all in the coming season and contact us with any
questions. And remember, we're volunteers just like
you! Enjoy the game, have fun, and be nice !!!
